This afternoon from 3-4pm, the pilot episode of 'gay chud vegan skramz' aired on Radio Monash. Hosted by Alan Drome, the self-proclaimed "most knowledgeable person" on Australian emo music, the show compiled an hour of mostly new and local releases accompanied by passionate commentary.
This premiere offered a glimpse into what we can expect over the coming weeks, as the show settles into its consistent Monday broadcast.

Kicking off with a short introduction, Alan wasted no time in playing the first track of the hour, Our Mutual Friend's new release 'dry my tears'. Following this with a quick shoutout to Starfest, they then put on goblinviolence's single which came out two days ago.
The next song was a brand new demo from an artist I hadn't heard of before, wecarvedournames. It was a stripped back bedroom-recording track consisting of only heavily strummed acoustic guitar and soft melancholic vocals.
Alan mourned the breakup of Eora band The Picture of Dorian Gray, listening to their track 'The Wish'. During a digression about a folk-punk song that they wrote yesterday, the broadcast briefly cut out.. although this was quickly resolved.
The band that I play in, In Her Palms, got a mention (yay!) with a live recording from our first show. This blog was shouted out (<3) alongside the skramz directory, Suckerpunch Records, and Lotti's cooking blog.
The playlist moved between new local releases and slightly older scene favourites, including 'two' by iwillcommitsuicideattheverypeakofourdesperatelove, With One Exception’s 'Thorn Sculpture', and body shirt’s 'knives to my waist'.
C'est la vie's 'i never learnt how to fight' shifted the tone with its bright, mathy sound, before moving the focus overseas to Balitmore band, 'life'.
The show's playlist came to an early finish with a song from Daisy Chain.. but, with time to spare, Alan talked about a CRAZY announcement made this morning: St Albans Kids, inactive since 2003, are reuniting for a show at The Old Bar on May 2nd. To close the episode in celebration, they played the first two songs from the band's iconic 2002 album.
Here is the playlist from the show:

If the first episode is any indication, 'gay chud vegan skramz' could very quickly become a great platform for showcasing and promoting new Australian screamo and DIY releases, and shining a light on some smaller acts across the country. Tune into the broadcast at radiomonash.online every Monday, at 3pm-4pm Victorian Time, and follow the show on Instagram!
